Essential Travel Information

Altitude and Climate

While Cusco (3,400 m) is high, the route drops as you move toward Aguas Calientes (2,040 m) and Machu Picchu (2,430 m). Most travelers find the lower, more humid climate of the cloud forest easier for breathing, but proper hydration is still essential.

Best Time to Visit

The dry season (April to October) offers the clearest skies. April and October are excellent shoulder months with fewer crowds. The rainy season (January to March) is greener and quieter, though you should always be prepared for afternoon showers.

Machu Picchu Circuits

We prioritize Circuit 2 as it offers the most iconic views and extensive exploration. Because tickets are sold on a first-come, first-served basis, we strongly recommend booking as early as possible to secure the best schedules.

Luggage Storage

Most hotels in Cusco provide free luggage storage while you are at Machu Picchu. You should only travel to Aguas Calientes with a small carry-on bag containing your overnight essentials.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get to Machu Picchu?

This tour uses the train as the primary method of transportation, which is the most comfortable alternative to hiking. Trains depart from Cusco, Poroy, or Ollantaytambo depending on the season.

What are the opening hours?

Machu Picchu is open from 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Your entry will be scheduled for a specific time slot to ensure a smooth flow of visitors.

Which circuit is included?

QOSQO ADVENTURES includes Circuit 2 by default. If this is sold out, we will provide the best available alternative, such as Circuit 1 or 3.

What about altitude sickness?

Since the tour drops to a lower elevation than Cusco, many people feel better once they arrive in Aguas Calientes. However, staying in Cusco for 2 days before the tour is recommended for acclimatization.

Can I store my luggage?

Yes, you can leave your large bags at your hotel in Cusco or at our office. You only need a small bag for the two days in the cloud forest.
